Caring for a parent
Coordinating a parent's care between two siblings
Updated · by the Simpleban team
In short
Caring for a parent between two siblings generates a steady stream of tasks — GP appointments, prescriptions, the carer's invoice, the stairlift quote, the weekly visit — and most of the strain comes from not knowing who has what. Simpleban is a free shared board for exactly two people: each task is a card assigned to you, your partner, or either of you, repeating ones (medication order every 4 weeks, visit every Sunday) come back by themselves and can alternate between you, and handing something over shows as “waiting on you” on the other sibling's phone. It keeps the record without anyone keeping score.

What goes on the board
- Appointments and who's driving.
- Medication reorders and pharmacy pick-ups, repeating.
- Care agency, cleaner, meals — the people and their invoices.
- House and safety: grab rails, boiler service, smoke alarms.
- Finance and admin tasks: power of attorney paperwork, benefits forms, the bank. (The board holds the task, not the money.)
- The weekly visit, alternating.
How it keeps it fair
- Every card has an owner: you, your sibling, or either of you — so “who is on this?” is answered before anyone asks.
- Hand a card to your sibling and it moves to the top of their board under “waiting on you”. If they're not on the app, Simpleban emails them a few minutes later, and the next morning's 8am email mentions it once if it's still waiting — never every day. You never press a “remind” button.
- When your sibling is done, they hand it back and it reappears at the top of your board.
- Repeating cards come back on their own schedule — daily, weekly, chosen weekdays, every N days, monthly — and can alternate between the two of you.
- Due dates with a calm Today / This week filter, a private calendar feed for Google, Apple or Outlook, and a countdown on the board for the date that matters.
- Notes, checklists and comments live inside each card, so the context travels with the task.
- Notes on each card hold the phone numbers, reference numbers and what the doctor said — so the context isn't in one person's head.
- Your sibling joins from your invite link with a name and an email — no password, nothing to pay. Both of you have the full app on your own phone; it installs like an app and works offline for reading.
Honest limits
Simpleban is a board for two people, not a care-management or medical records system, and it has no shared calendar beyond a feed of due dates. A third sibling, or the parent, can look at a read-only link.

Questions, answered
- Is this a medical or care records app?
- No. It's a shared task board for two people. It holds tasks and notes, not health records.
- Can a third sibling see it?
- With a read-only share link, yes — they can see the board but not edit it. Editing is for the two of you.
- Can repeating tasks alternate between us?
- Yes. Set the Sunday visit or the pharmacy run to repeat and alternate, and it's handed to the other person each time it comes back.
- Does the other person need to pay or install anything?
- No. They open your invite link, type a name and an email, and they're on the board. Installing it as an app on their phone is optional. Simpleban is free forever for two: you and the one person you invite get every feature, unlimited boards and cards, no trial and no credit card. The promise is written into the Terms: nothing that is free today will ever move behind a paywall, and your +1 never pays. If you need more people or want to share boards beyond your +1, we'll soon introduce subscription tiers — a flat rate, never per seat.
Share the load, keep the peace
